In these cold winter months, it is important to take extra steps in order to keep your skin healthy and radiant. In addition to skin care treatments from Silk Touch, there are several things youcan do it at home to keep your skin healthy between treatments.
1. Oil Based Moisturizer
This helps protect your skin from moisture loss. If you chose on that comes in a ointment form, it will contain at least 80% oil. Creams and lotions that aren’t as oil based can cause your skin to dry out, rather than keep it moisturized and soft.
2. Use Sunscreen
Even though it is less than warm outside, that doesn’t mean that your skin isn’t subjected to the harsh and damaging rays of the sun. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen to your face, neck and hands at least 30 minutes before going outside.
3. Pace At-Home Facial Peels
Avoid facial peels that are harsh on your skin, such as alcohol based astrigants, masks and harsh peels. These all can strip vital oil from your skin. Look for masks that are “deep-hydrating” or are mild.
4. Avoid Hot Baths
Even though soaking in a burning-hot bath can feel great after a long day battling the winter weather, it can also really dry out your skin. The intense heat of a hot shower, or bath, breaks down the lipid barriers in the skin, leading to loss of moisture. Instead, take a lukewarm bath with oatmeal or baking soda. This helps relieve skin that is dry, damaged and itchy.
5. Don’t forget your fingers and toes!
Wear gloves in the winter to help keep your hands from drying out and your nails healthy. Nails tend to peel and crack during winter months. Use hand cream after you wash your hands, and apply cuticle oil to your nails to keep them hydrated.
Neglecting your feet all winter just makes it more difficult to whip them into shape for spring, not to mention it gets really painful or uncomfortable just walking around. Get a pedicure on regular basis and apply a rich foot cream nightly before going to bed.
