What is liposuction?
Exercise and a healthy diet can do wonders for the body, but sometimes certain areas of stubborn fat are hard to get rid of. For those people who experience this, liposuction may be the solution. Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that removes the excess fat that dieting and exercising can’t take off. This procedure can be done on several areas of the body and results are almost immediate. At Silk Touch Cosmetic Surgery, Lipo and Medspa in Boise, we offer a full range of liposuction techniques to meet your individual needs. Click below to learn more or call us at 208-939-3110.

Power Assisted Liposuction
Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL) is an advanced form of body sculpting. This procedure uses a cannula that vibrates rapidly to break up the fat into smaller pieces before they are removed. A cannula is a thin metal tube that is inserted into an incision and is used to suction out the pieces of fat. Unlike traditional liposuction that requires manual back and forth movement of the cannula, PAL uses a power assisted cannula that automatically moves back and forth.
The key to our success is the use of a small cannula to facilitate sculpting and diminish the potential for tunneling and contour irregularities. The vibrating tip of the cannula makes power assisted liposuction faster and more efficient. PAL can be used on its own or in combination with other forms of liposuction for exceptional results. Combining liposuction procedures allows the doctors to work with such precision that they are able to finely shape delicate areas like the inner thighs, arms, chin, and neck.
What Are The Benefits of Power Assisted Liposuction?
- More precise and controlled fat removal
- Gentler procedure that reduces bruising and recovery time
- Faster and more efficient procedure
- Smaller incision and minimal scarring due to the use of a smaller cannula
Smartlipo Laser Assisted Liposuction
Smartlipo is an innovative procedure for removing excess body fat and firming loose skin. This is a gentle procedure that can be done in just a couple of hours for smaller areas. There is minimal pain, a quick recovery time and visible results almost immediately. To perform the procedure, a paperclip-thin laser fiber is inserted into a very tiny incision. The fat is melted by the laser in such a way that the body doesn’t experience trauma that’s associated with traditional liposuction. In a traditional liposuction procedure, the patient is put under, opened up, and solid chunks of fat are sucked out. However, in Smartlipo, local anesthesia is used and the patient walks out in an hour or two. Several areas of the body can be treated at one time.
Liposuction Boise Testimonials
“Smartlipo has defined my abs and flanks to the way they always were (before menopause and hyper-active thyr0id took the toll). The financial investment is worth the result of feeling like a woman again (instead of a frumpy middle-age has-been). Dr. Kerr is an artist, which by looking at his paintings, I knew he would know how to sculpt a woman’s body. My after-Smartlipo-body is evenly distributed and shapely. Today my 26 year-old daughter said to me, “Now I know what I am going to look like at 56.” She said I have a nice body and an hour-glass shape. The above results are all because of Dr. Kerr’s excellent work.”

What is Vaser Liposuction?
VASER® liposuction combines patented new ultrasound technology with advanced surgical techniques to break up fatty tissue and for fat removal. Large amounts of unwanted fat can be efficiently removed from abs, arms, back, hips, knees, love handles, neck and chin, saddlebags, thighs – any place you’ve developed a little “extra cushioning.”
VASER uses ultrasound technology for fatty tissue removal. Nerves and blood vessels normally remain undisturbed & patients report low to minimal pain and bruising.
What is Tumescent Liposuction?
Tumescent Liposuction is the performance of VASER Lipo under local anesthesia. The use of local anesthetics in the tumescent technique is so effective that patients may not need intravenous sedatives, narcotic analgesics, or general anesthesia. As a result of the widespread capillary constriction caused by the epinephrine in the anesthetic solution, there is minimal bleeding during and after liposuction. This is a major improvement in the liposuction technique compared to the older methods that simply use general anesthesia.
Rapid Healing after Tumescent Liposuction.
After tumescent liposuction, there is a certain amount of blood-tinged local anesthetic solution that remains under the skin. This excess fluid is either slowly absorbed over several weeks into the bloodstream, or it can be rapidly removed by drainage through skin incisions and absorbed by special absorptive pads. Our Liposuction is an outpatient procedure and you can actually walk out of our office!
Can Liposuction Be Combined With Other Procedures?
Liposuction With ThermiTight
In individuals who have mild to moderate skin laxity the doctors often combine liposuction with ThermiTight. ThermiTight is a nonsurgical procedure that uses radio frequency energy to stimulate collagen production, which in return promotes skin tightening and thickening. This treatment can be used on multiple areas of the body including the neck, jowls, abdomen, love handles, thighs, knees, and buttocks. With just one treatment, skin laxity noticeably improves and continues to improve over time.

- Healthy individuals
- Individuals within 30% of their ideal body weight who have good muscle tone and firm, elastic skin
There are limits to how much fatty tissue can safely be taken from the body in one liposuction procedure. One way to get a good idea for yourself is to stand and bend from the waist. The amount of “loose-hanging” fat you can easily grab above/below your waist will approximate what can be removed with liposuction. Keep in mind that this procedure is not intended as a weight loss solution. The goal is to create a slimmer silhouette.
Recently this technique has become more popular for maximizing the safety of liposuction. Laser Liposuction may be done totally by local anesthesia with minimal bruising or blood loss.
Clients are often back on their feet within a day or two and many return to work the very next day.
Following your liposuction procedure, should you experience weight gain or loss, it will tend to be proportionately distributed over your entire body. Once you have fat removed, it is gone and (assuming a healthy lifestyle, proper diet, and exercise) it will not return or migrate. However, because fat is necessary to a healthy body, some essential fat layers in any given site remain untreated. If you do gain a significant amount of weight, the remaining fatty tissue will expand. Normal aging changes can also be expected.
This varies with the extensiveness of the liposuction procedure, the amount of fat removed, the number of sites treated, and so on. Many patients report that they see results immediately after the procedure, with the final results being visible around 3 to 6 months.

The length of the recovery process depends on the size of the area treated and the extent of the liposuction procedure. For smaller areas recovery can be a few days, whereas with larger areas it can be anywhere from 7 to 10 days of swelling and pain. Following your procedure you will be provided a compression garment that will need to be worn for 4 to 6 weeks that will help reduce swelling and bruising, as well as help your body heal properly. Activity levels may also be restricted for the first 6 weeks.
