Liposuction in Boise, ID

Exercise and a healthy diet can do wonders for the body, but sometimes certain areas of stubborn fat are hard to get rid of. For those people who experience this, liposuction may be the solution. Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that removes the excess fat that dieting and exercising can’t take off. This procedure can be done on several areas of the body and results are almost immediate.

What Is Smartlipo?

Smartlipo is an innovative procedure for removing excess body fat and firming loose skin. This is a gentle procedure that can be done in just a couple of hours for smaller areas. There is minimal pain, a quick recovery time and visible results almost immediately. Approved by the FDA in the fall of 2006, Smartlipo has proven to be one of the safest cosmetic procedures.

To perform the procedure, a paperclip-thin laser fiber is inserted into a very tiny incision. The fat is melted by the laser in such a way that the body doesn’t experience trauma that’s associated with traditional liposuction. In a traditional liposuction procedure, the patient is put under, opened up, and solid chunks of fat are sucked out. However, in Smartlipo, local anesthesia is used and the patient walks out in an hour or two. Several areas of the body can be treated at one time.

“The combination of the Smartlipo technology and Vaser Liposuction technology is without comparison. We noticed this right away. We get much better results than with just Smart lipo alone. The Smartlipo device did a good job of tightening the skin, but the combination of the two sets a new standard.” Brian C. Kerr, MD Medical Director, Silk Touch Med Spa, Boise

How Does SmartLipo Work?

SmartLipo™ (Smart Lipo) uses a paperclip—thin laser fiber which is inserted into a very tiny incision. The fat is melted by the laser in such a way that the body doesn’t experience trauma that’s associated with traditional liposuction. In a traditional liposuction procedure, the patient is put under, opened up and solid chunks of fat are sucked out. Local anesthesia is used in the Smartlipo procedure, and the client walks out in an hour or two. Several areas of the body may be treated at one time.

Is Anesthesia Used During The Procedure?

Recently this technique has become more popular for maximizing the safety of liposuction. Laser Liposuction may be done totally by local anesthesia with minimal bruising or blood loss.

What is Vaser Liposuction?

VASER liposuction combines patented new ultrasound technology with advanced surgical techniques to break up fatty tissue and for fat removal. Large amounts of unwanted fat can be efficiently removed from abs, arms, back, hips, knees, love handles, neck and chin, saddle bags, thighs—any place you’ve developed a little “extra cushioning.” VASER uses ultrasound technology for fatty tissue removal. Nerves and blood vessels normally remain undisturbed and patients report low to minimal pain and bruising.

Tumescent Liposuction

Tumescent liposuction is the performance of VASER liposuction under local anesthesia. The use of local anesthetics in the tumescent technique is so effective that patients may not need intravenous sedatives, narcotic analgesics, or general anesthesia. As a result of the widespread capillary constriction caused by the epinephrine in the anesthetic solution, there is minimal bleeding during and after liposuction. This is a major improvement in the liposuction technique compared to older methods that simply use general anesthesia.

What are the Benefits of Tumescent Liposuction?

Tumescent liposuction is a technique that allows the procedure to be performed completely with local anesthetics. Patients no longer need intravenous sedatives, narcotic analgesics, or general anesthesia. Bruising and blood loss is kept to a minimum via capillary constriction caused by the epinephrine in the anesthetic solution, during and after liposuction. This is a major improvement in the liposuction technique compared to the older methods that simply use general anesthesia.

Rapid Healing after Tumescent Liposuction.

After tumescent liposuction, there is a certain amount of blood-tinged local anesthetic solution that remains under the skin. This excess fluid is either slowly absorbed over several weeks into the bloodstream, or it can be rapidly removed by drainage through skin incisions and absorbed by special absorptive pads. Our Liposuction is an outpatient procedure and you can actually walk out of our office!

SmartLipo Boise Testimonials

—- Original Message —- “To anyone considering SmartLipo – go see Dr. Kerr, he is truly an artist. I could not lose the menopausal weight around my middle and did a lot of research on this procedure. Dr Kerr and his staff are very professional and caring, and tell you what to expect before, during and after the procedure. I am very happy with the results already, after only 2 weeks, and I know it will continue to get even better. Thank you Dr. Kerr and staff, you have made such a wonderful change in my life!” Maureen 10.10.09*

—- Original Message —- “Smartlipo has defined my abs and flanks to the way they always were (before menopause and hyper-active thyr0id took the toll). The financial investment is worth the result of feeling like a woman again (instead of a frumpy middle-age has-been). Dr. Kerr is an artist, which by looking at his paintings, I knew he would know how to sculpt a woman’s body. My after-Smartlipo-body is evenly distributed and shapely. Today my 26 year-old daughter said to me, “Now I know what I am going to look like at 56.” She said I have a nice body and an hour-glass shape. The above results are all because of Dr. Kerr’s excellent work.” Candace G. 09.03.09*

VASER Liposuction By Dr. Brian Kerr

VASER Liposuction was recently found to be viable in a Stanford Study.

According to a recent study published in the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, researchers from Stanford University found no significant difference between the viability of fat harvested via the VASER Lipo procedure and fat harvested via traditional liposuction. The results of the study discredit the common notion that VASER Lipo’s ultrasonic energy destroys fat cells and prohibits the cells from successfully being re-injected during a fat transfer procedure. This substantiates the claims of many physicians who have been using the VASER procedure for years. The unique ultrasound action present in VASER technology thoroughly emulsifies the fat, allowing procedures to be performed successfully and in record time. Silk Touch Cosmetic Surgery and Medspa offers Breast and Buttock Enhancement procedures that utilize the safe and effective features of VASER technology. The study further shows that VASER is a safe and effective alternative to traditional liposuction.

What is Power Assisted Liposuction?

Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL) uses a cannula that vibrates rapidly to break up the fat into smaller pieces before they are removed. A cannula is a thin metal tube that is inserted into an incision and is used to suction out the pieces of fat. The key to our success is the use of a small cannula to facilitate sculpting and diminish the potential for tunneling and contour irregularities. The vibrating tip of the cannula makes power assisted liposuction faster and more efficient.

Liposuction With ThermiTight

In individuals who have mild to moderate skin laxity the doctors often combine liposuction with ThermiTight. ThermiTight is a nonsurgical procedure that uses radio frequency energy to stimulate collagen production, which in return promotes skin tightening and thickening. This treatment can be used on multiple areas of the body including the neck, jowls, abdomen, love handles, thighs, knees, and buttocks. With just one treatment, skin laxity noticeably improves and continues to improve over time.

What Is The Recovery And After Care For Liposuction?

Clients are often back on their feet within a day or two and many may return to work the very next day. After tumescent liposuction, there is a certain amount of blood-tinged local anesthetic solution that remains under the skin. This excess fluid is either slowly absorbed over several days, or it can be rapidly removed by drainage through skin incisions and absorbed by special absorptive pads. Our liposuction is an outpatient procedure and you can actually walk out of our office the same day.

The length of the recovery process depends on the size of the area treated and the extent of the liposuction procedure. For smaller areas recovery can be a few days, whereas with larger areas it can be anywhere from 7 to 10 days of swelling and pain. Following your procedure you will be provided a compression garment that will need to be worn for 4 to 6 weeks that will help reduce swelling and bruising, as well as help your body heal properly. Activity levels may also be restricted for the first 6 weeks.

FAQs:

Who is a candidate for liposuction?

  • Nonsmokers
  • Healthy individuals
  • Individuals within 30% of their ideal body weight who have good muscle tone and firm, elastic skin

How much fat can be taken?

There are limits to how much fatty tissue can safely be taken from the body in one liposuction procedure. One way to get a good idea for yourself is to stand and bend from the waist. The amount of “loose-hanging” fat you can easily grab above/below your waist will approximate what can be removed with liposuction. Keep in mind that this procedure is not intended as a weight loss solution. The goal is to create a slimmer silhouette.

What about future weight gain/fat migrating to other areas?

Following your liposuction procedure, should you experience weight gain or loss, it will tend to be proportionately distributed over your entire body. Once you have fat removed, it is gone and (assuming a healthy lifestyle, proper diet, and exercise) it will not return or migrate. However, because fat is necessary to a healthy body, some essential fat layers in any given site remain untreated. If you do gain a significant amount of weight, the remaining fatty tissue will expand. Normal aging changes can also be expected.

When will I see results?

This varies with the extensiveness of the liposuction procedure,  the amount of fat removed, the number of sites treated, and so on. Many patients report that they see results immediately after the procedure, with the final results being visible around 3 to 6 months.
