Breast Implant Exchange, also known as Breast Revision Surgery, is the removal of existing breast implants in exchange for new ones. Dr. Nealy customizes this procedure to each patient’s individual needs to help them feel happy and confident in the appearance of their breasts.
Procedure
Patients undergoing implant exchange will experience a very different recovery compared to their initial breast augmentation. This is because the implant pocket has already been created and your breasts have already accommodated an implant. Original incisions can often be used to access the implant. If there is pocket incompetence and implants are sliding into the axilla (armpit) the pocket can be repaired to improve this. If a patient has capsular contracture, Dr. Nealy will first remove the scar tissue before the new implants are placed. When receiving larger implants, the breast pocket is also enlarged prior to receiving the new implants.

- Infection
- Excessive Bleeding
- Scarring
- Blood clots
- Reaction to anesthesia
- Asymmetry
- Capsular Contracture (the development of scar tissue around the breast implant)
Recovery
Recovery from Breast Implant Exchange is often easier than the initial surgery. It’s normal to experience minor bruising and swelling. You may experience some pain or discomfort. Recovery can vary from person to person, but generally you should be back to normal activities within the first week. Dr. Nealy provides his patients with a post-op regimen that should be followed for optimal results.

Results of breast implant exchange are long-lasting provided you don’t become pregnant or gain or lose a significant amount of weight. Patients often pair their procedure with a breast lift to further enhance their results.
