Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)

At Silk Touch we use the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) method utilizing the NeoGraft™ Automated Hair Transplantation device. The FUE method of hair transplantation removes individual hair follicles from the scalp in their naturally occurring groupings of about 1-4 hairs and are then placed in the areas of the scalp where balding has occurred.

The benefits of the automated FUE method to the patient are the same as manual FUE; minimal discomfort, no scalpel incision, no sutures, no linear scar, little to no risk of complications, quick recovery time, fewer activity limitations and a more natural looking result than traditional strip methods.

Why Neograft is the Solution:

The NeoGraft™ Automated FUE is also a useful procedure to fix visible linear scars from previous “strip” surgeries. FUE can be used to ‘fill in’ or camouflage those old scars by transplanting new follicles into the area.

  • Superior Results – More natural looking hair, short or long for any gender.
  • Advanced Technology – Automated technology, minimally invasive procedure for hair transplantation.
  • Gentle, Discrete – Safe, little to no discomfort.  No scalpel incision, no staples, no linear scar.
  • Quick Recovery Time – Typically back to work the next day.*
  • Effective – Less activity restrictions than traditional strip methods.
  • Affordable – We have financing programs available to meet your exact needs.

Neograft FAQs

This method of transplantation requires that the patient still have adequate amounts of hair growing on the lower back of his or her scalp. The functioning follicles will be transplanted into the thinning or balding areas. NeoGraft is a great way to camouflage that scar if you’ve previously had linear harvests from the back of the scalp. It is best to begin these procedures when you are first thinning, rather than when an area is fully bald.

It is best to begin these procedures when you are first thinning, rather than when an area is fully bald. This allows you to keep up with any continued thinning.

This is a very low-risk procedure, especially when compared to the strip transplant method, which removes a large portion of skin and creates a long incision scar. Since our physicians only remove a single follicle at a time, the impact on the scalp is minimal. There is no scarring and the tiny spots where the follicles were removed heal very quickly. There is very low risk for infection, little to no bleeding, and no general anesthesia is required.

Over the first two to three weeks, the majority of the transplanted hair will fall out. This does not mean the follicles have failed to take; it is simply the follicles’ reaction to the trauma of transplantation. Not all of the transplanted hairs will survive — usually, around 80-90 percent are successful. The hair follicles then settle in and return to the anagen (growth) phase in 3-4 months, producing new hair and returning fullness to the transplanted area.
