What Can a Chemical Peel Do for You?

Beauty portrait of young Asian women on light and shadow background Does your skin need a pick-me-up? Do you have skin problems that aren’t going away on their own? A chemical peel may be the answer! These treatments have been used for centuries to help keep skin looking beautiful, and you probably know someone who receives one often as part of their beauty regimen. Read on to find out what a chemical peel can do for you!

What Is a Chemical Peel?

In a chemical peel treatment, a solution is applied to the skin that removes the top layer of dead skin cells. The chemicals used stimulate the growth of collagen, elastin, and new skin cells to give you smoother, younger-looking skin. Chemical peels can be used to improve many skin issues such as: age spots, acne and acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, and freckles. They can also help rejuvenate dull looking skin.

At Silk Touch Cosmetic Surgery, Lipo, and Medspa we offer a variety of chemical peels that have unique ingredients to treat different types of skin issues. Our skilled aestheticians can help you decide which peel is best for you and your skin type. Some peels are very strong and can be used to address pigmentation problems such as age spots; some peels have anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that can help prevent acne breakouts; and others are better as a “starter” peel that can be used just to refresh skin.

A chemical peel takes about half an hour for the entire treatment. If you would like to add chemical peels into your regular beauty regimen, it is recommended that you wait at least 4 weeks between peels. After your peel, your skin may show signs of redness or irritation. However, you will be given instructions to follow to protect your skin and optimize its healing, such as avoiding the sun and avoiding exfoliating. Chemical peels are not painful, although you may feel a mild stinging sensation during your treatment. Other side effects are very rare.

Our aestheticians at Silk Touch can help you decide if a chemical peel is right for you, or if another treatment might be a better choice, with a complimentary VISIA Skin Analysis.
