Will Tanning or Watching their Diet Help?

Acne is an inflammatory disease of the skin and is not related in any way to the foods consumed by an individual. Acne is most common and severe in the teenage years but can continue into adulthood. Acne leads to skin redness, pimples and blackheads. When uncontrolled, acne can eventually lead to scarring. All successful acne treatments must include steps to unclog the pores and to kill the bacterium that causes the inflammation.

Many OTC (over the counter) products promise to reduce acne but succeed only in causing further skin irritation and increase the chance of permanent scarring. Exposure to sunlight (tanning) may temporarily reduce the outward sign of acne, but symptoms will return after the skin begins to heal. In addition, sun exposure increases the chance of skin cancers, brown blotches and premature wrinkling and aging.

Because every patient’s skin is different, Silk Touch Acne Care starts with a FREE PERSONAL CONSULTATION. This approach allows us to design a treatment regimen that will offer the best results for each patient.

LED Light Therapy

The LED therapy (also called Blue Light Therapy) is a treatment that uses light to kill the acne causing – bacteria and stimulates cells to help with the healing process. The blue-light therapy also helps to reduce the inflammation surrounding acne lesions.

Blue light therapy can be used on its own, but is often combined with an agent that makes the skin more receptive to the light treatment. Several treatments are needed, usually spaced out over several weeks. LED therapy is most often recommended for patients with light to moderate acne or those who may not tolerate a more aggressive treatment.

Photodynamic Acne Therapy

We use a combination of Levulan and LED Light Therapy or Deep Pore Therapy to target hard to treat acne. A series of three to five treatments are usually performed at a period of two to four week intervals. The number of treatments recommended depends on the severity of acne. Some patients may notice results after the first treatment.

Photodynamic Acne Therapy can be used to treat moderate to severe cystic acne, and may provide results similar to those achieved with Accutane.

Before and After Photos:

Medical Microdermabrasion

Medical Microdermabrasion removes dead skin and helps prevent and dislodge follicle plugs. Microdermabrasion can be helpful in treating the type of acne that consists of blackheads, whiteheads, and skin-colored bumps. When used as part of an acne treatment program, microdermabrasion can significantly enhance the clearing of active pimples. For users with red bumps or deeper cysts, however, an alternate procedure (such as Photodynamic Acne Therapy) may be recommended.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels can exfoliate the skin and minimize clogged pores and may also be beneficial in for scar reduction in long term acne patients. Silk Touch MedSpa offers a wide variety of chemical peels suited to various skin types.

Cosmeceuticals –or cosmetic pharmaceuticals– include moisturizers, cleansers, peels and other topical products used to control acne. Silk Touch MedSpa carries a complete line of prescription and non-prescription cosmeceuticals, including topical retinoids.
