Often we are asked, what exactly is microdermabrasion?
Essentially, microdermabrasion is a mechanical exfoliation. It is one of the easiest and most effective anti-aging treatments you can get.
Microdermabrasion works by using an abrasive action to remove or exfoliate the outer surface of the skin. This abrasion helps to regenerate the skin by increasing the blood supply and lymphatic flow to the skin. This helps to accelerate the repair process and enhances the formulationof new collagen and elastin. The results are smoother, fresher skin. Medical microdermabrasion can improve acne and acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, age spots and sun damage, rough skin texture, large and/or clogged pores including blackheads and whiteheads.

Microdermabrasion also makes it easier for high-tech skincare products to penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin and help build collagen,
Often referred to as the “lunch time” treatment, microdermabrasion is preferred by many clients because its lack of downtime.
Treatments take 30 to 60 minutes. 4-6 treatments are recommended every 2 weeks. They are often alternated or paired with chemical peels. Make up can be applied immediately following the treatment, and is usually found to have a more smooth even application post microderm.
Because of its plumping and smoothing effects on the skin many clients will opt to have this treatment done before parties, traveling or weddings. Microdermabrasion gives a subtle glow to the skin, making you feel refreshed and hydrated.
There are minimal risks to having microdermabrasion. After treatment, patients are pink in color. We ask them to wear sunscreen and depending on how aggressive the treatment and we encourage patients not to wear makeup for the rest of the day since most makeup is not sterile after first use and the skin is more vulnerable to impurities.
Anyone with keloids (thickened scars) or who has taken Accutane within the past 6 months are not candidates. Those who are susceptible getting cold sores (herpes simplex) should make sure they are taking an antiviral before treatment.
Our clients have had nothing but positive remarks to say about their experience with microdermabrasion.
“I enjoy having this treatment done, it leaves my skin feeling smooth with a more even tone, I tend to do microdermabrasions every two weeks to maintain and help treat my skin. We all know as we age our skin starts to look more dull and tired, I feel that with the help of a microderm and my at home products my skin is much more healthy and vibrant. To me this treatment with a light peel is a necessity to my fight against aging.”
