What is a chemical peel?
A chemical peel is a treatment used to improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck, or hands. It can reduce the appearance of fine lines, acne, wrinkles, and age spots, as well as improve the overall texture of the skin. During a chemical peel, a solution is applied to the skin to remove the top layer of dead skin cells, stimulating the growth of new skin cells and collagen production. The new skin is often smoother, revealing a more youthful complexion.
How do chemical peels work?
When the acids used as peeling agents are applied to the skin, they raise the acidity of the skin. Our skin normally has a pH of around 5.5, and peeling agents raise the acidity to around a 3.8 pH level (lower numbers mean more acidic, neutral levels are 7.0). This change in pH loosens the cells that form the adhesion or “glue” between dead skin cells and healthy skin cells beneath. Once the peeling agent loosens those bonds, exfoliation occurs as the dead skin cells are shed and healthy skin cells are revealed. The process speeds the natural exfoliation cycle, and it promotes the growth of new, healthy skin cells.

Glycolic Acid Peel
Lite Refresh Peel
Glycolic Acid is a great way to exfoliate normal-oily skin. This peel is an excellent choice if you have acneic skin or blackheads and need to deep clean your pores. You will see more clarity in the surface texture of your skin, and reduction of the appearance acne marks. If you have more of “normal” skin and want to soften lines and other topical skin marks the Glycolic Acid Peel is effective at reviving skin for a youthful glow.
Epionce Peel
Lite Refresh Peel
This peel is a great starter peel, it is a lighter peel that helps brighten and smooth the skin. The Lite Refresh peel helps stimulate collagen and helps refresh your skin.
Sal- E Peel
Sal-E is a Salicylic acid peel that helps treat breaks out such as acne and black heads. This peel is great for skin clarity, it also has anti- bacterial and anti inflammatory benefits.
Mal- E Peel
Mal-E is a Malic acid peel with exfoliation properties to help cell turn over rate for your skin cells. This peel also helps treat pigmentation and reduce bacteria.
TCA Ultra Peel
A trichloroacetic acid peel, or TCA peel, is a type of cosmetic chemical peel performed to treat a wide range of skin problems, such as visible signs of aging, sun damage, acne scarring, and hyperpigmentation. Specially formulated to treat dehydrated, maturing skin, also appropriate for many skin types, conditions and sensitivities.

How do I know which peel is right for my skin?
At Silk Touch, our skin experts help you decide which peel is the best for your skin type and unique skin issues. Whether you have dry or oily skin, whether your skin is normal or sensitive, our experienced, knowledgeable team will help you decide on the peel that is best for your situation.
How is a chemical peel done?
The actual peel portion of these treatments at Silk Touch varies depending on the type of peel and the peeling agent. Overall, the entire treatment usually takes around 30 minutes. We first thoroughly clean your skin. We then apply the peeling agent. We can do this with a cotton ball, gauze, or brush. You may feel a mild stinging, but this is minimal. We leave the agent on for the prescribed time and then wipe it off. Neutralization may be necessary depending on the chemical peel chosen. We then rinse your face and apply a hydrating mask.
How often can I get a chemical peel?
Chemical peels can be done as often as every two to four weeks, depending on the type of peel you are using and the results you are trying to achieve. It is recommended to wait at least four weeks between chemical peels to allow your skin to heal and recover.
Are chemical peels considered to be safe? What are the risks?
Though rare, the most common risks associated with chemical peels include burning of the skin, scarring, changes in skin pigmentation, allergic reactions, crusting of the skin, sensitivity to sunlight, or skin irritation
Are chemical peels painful?
Generally, mild chemical peels cause little to no pain, while stronger chemical peels can cause more discomfort. It is important to discuss any pain concerns with your aesthetician prior to the procedure.
